Seeds Of Love
Seeds Of Love is a fundraiser designed to create sustainable global communities by connecting children and schools around the world.
Here's how it works:
- Students and Sustain Utah volunteers sell seed packets for $2 each
- $1 supports a school in Utah in their energy efficiency quest
- $1 supports building a new school run on renewable energy in an area that has recently experienced a natural disaster
- The two schools become sister schools
- Students grow strong global connections
- A sustainable global community is formed
The 2010/2011 Seeds Of Love Fundraiser focuses on:
Sego Lily School - Sego Lily School is building Utah's first Net-Zero Energy School in Murray, Utah. The school is designed to be Solar and Wind powered and built out of a waste-stream resource, shipping containers.
Haiti School - On January 12, 2010 Haiti experienced a catastrophic 7.0 earthquake near the capital city of Port-Au-Prince. Since then aftershocks and a massive cholera outbreak have added to the tragedy. Over a million people are still homeless, living in life-threatening conditions. They lack power, clean water, shelter and work. The Human Relief Project has plans to build a self-sustaining school (solar powered, filters drinking water, on-site sewage treatment) out of shipping containers. The school will be built to withstand any future disasters. The building will do double-duty, functioning as a school during the day and a safe shelter at night.
